The Winter Blues Have Nothing On December's Birthstones!
Traditionally, each of the twelve months was assigned one birthstone, but some months have multiples. December babies have the fortune of three separate birthstones - Turquoise, Tanzanite, and Blue Zircon - all of which take on a unique shade of blue.
While it is most commonly associated with Native American craftsmen working in sterling silver, turquoise has been admired since ancient times and has long been prized for its distinctive color, ranging from powdery blue to greenish robin’s egg blue. It’s one of the world’s oldest gemstones and has a rich history full of lore and legends.

Tanzanite, on the other hand, is a relatively newer gemstone, discovered in East Africa’s Tanzania in 1967. This gorgeous blue gemstone quickly became an overnight sensation thanks to marketing efforts by Tiffany & Co. Tanzanite is often described as “velvety,” and ranges in color from a pale lavender with light blue hues to pure rich blue-violet. Because Tanzanite is only found in one part of the world, it is said to be 1000 times rarer than a diamond.

Zircon is an underrated gemstone that’s often confused with synthetic cubic zirconia due to similar names. However, Zircon is a natural stone and one of the oldest minerals on earth. Zircon from Australia dates back 4.4 billion years! Zircon has a broad color palette - from very deep reds to oranges, greens, yellows, and golden-brown. Colorless zircon is known for its brilliance and is an excellent imitator of diamonds. Among customers, blue zircon is a clear favorite!
